This is why the Internet is awesome.
A groups of fansubbers have started to do fansubs of Razor Ramon's Hard Gay comedy sketches. They have a wiki, and a forum and put their translations onto YouTube and Google Video. The one where Hard Gay visits Yahoo! Japan is just pure comedy gold, and the ramen shop one is good too, especially with the translators' notes.
Then the Yahoo! one...
What I really love is that Japanese media companies still don't understand the demand that exists for Japanese media outside of Japan (and by "media" I mean not these funny little clips per se but more about anime and manga and characters that are popular world-wide (a la Sanrio and Bandai.) So a whole network of fansub groups around the world work together via the Internet to create fan-subtitled Japanese media in a myriad of other languages.
Hey, that's cool. I can finally link to a translation from my HG @ Yahoo! blog post.
damn that was hilarious. thanks for posting those. i'd never heard of HG. every now and again i come across some japanese TV show excerpts but i can't really tell what's going on. the english translations were good. you're absolutely right about the fansubs stuff. they are becoming more and more popular stateside. part of the problem is people find out about new japanese shows here as soon as they come out but sometimes it will be over a year before an official release is available. so everybody grabs the fansubs. i think if japanese companies made a more timely effort to release versions of their work in other languages fansubs probably wouldn't be such a big deal.
stay freaky
Sadly Google Video has removed any HG clips with subtitles, but YouTube.com still has them, plus new ones, if you search for Bakafish.
Hard Gay is hilarious! The Ramen shop is my favourite one. You should check out the ones where he visits the Tomy Toys Exec at his house and asks him to make a hard gay toy.
