I was attempting to say, “Your dog is getting hot outside”. Later that day when I was relaying the incident to my friend I learned that I was actually saying, “Your sea urchin is getting hot outside”. No wonder the woman was reluctant to open the door.

That is hilarious! My brother is visiting and he just mentioned an incident where a friend was sitting on the train and wanted to offer a seat to an elderly woman. So he gestured towards himself saying “suwatte kudasai” (please sit), but he really was saying “sawatte kudasai” (please touch me)…And he kept insisting even though she looked at him in shock…
