Taro Matsumura, a friend of mine via the First International Moblogging Conference in 2003, is a researcher and technologist at Keio University, Shonan Fujisawa Campus.
Here he introduces the CNet Japan audience to gree.jp and mixi.jp, two of the hottest Japanese social networking sites.
I've been meaning to do a profile of gree.jp for the English-language audience, but haven't had the time. Suffice it to say that it is still in alpha, but it already has different and often better features than Friendster. Gree handles RSS much better than most other SNSs (i.e. your home page has recent blog entries from all your friends) and Gree does a better job of building communities around say an employer, a university, a popular movie, a popular book, etc.
I am a member of gree.jp. Feel free to leave a comment if you are a friend of mine and would like an invite into gree.jp.
