2009 LOST MEMORIES
Synopsis:

August 15, 1945, the United Nations of America and Japan win World War II. Following the atomic bombs dropped in Berlin in 1945, the United Nations of America and Japan win the Second World War and East Asia is united into 'the Great East Asian Union' under the name of 'The Japanese Empire'. Japan is prospering as the second strongest economic nation in the world after the U.S., but anti-governmental terrorist attacks are prevalent all across countries that have been absorbed into the empire. 2009, The Japanese Empire consists of Tokyo, Osaka, and Seoul, the third largest city of Japan. Members of the Hureisenjin, the biggest Korean underground antigovernment organization, infiltrate the artifacts exhibition hall hosted by Inoue who is an influential figure in politics. The two JBI (Japanese Bureau of Investigation) agents assigned to deal with the terrorist situation are special agents Masayuki Sakamoto and his close friend Shojiro Saigo. ! And ….

Director:

LEE Si-Myung
Lee started as an assistant director for Cinema Service; the biggest name in the Korean film circuit. Working on such films as Lapse of Memory and Two Cops. His experience in directing movies began in his university days, producing a short film, which went on to win the awards at the 7th Original Korean Short Film Festival and the 2nd Shin Young Youth Visual Art Festival. Making his debut as a full-length film director with 2009 Lost Memories, Lee overtook the shoot with his heated passion and charisma overseeing it from beginning to the end.

Cast:

JANG Dong-Gun (Masayuki Sakamoto)
After winning the Best Supporting Actor award for Nowhere to Hide, at the Blue Dragon Film Festival, the character of Sakamoto was modeled after JANG Dong-Gun by LEE Si-Myung. He has also starred in Friend, one of the most commercially successful films in Korean history. In 2009 Lost Memories, he is reborn as an action star.

NAKAMURA Toru (Shojiro Saigo)
A veteran actor of stage, TV and feature films, Nakamura began his career in 1985. Nakamura’s masculine physique and powerful acting abilities have boosted him to a household name in Japan as well as being selected for 2009 Lost Memories. He is also well known in Korea, for his turns in Gen-X Cops and Tokyo Raiders. This sort of recognition in Korea is unusual for a Japanese actor.

Doh, I just left NYC. That would have been a nice treat. Have you seen it?

Sorry Dav, not yet.

Wrote a longer movie review of 2009 Lost Memories on my journal a few months back. I think it will be entertaining ... tho i am told Jang's phonetic Japanese does sound very obviously 'Korean' in intonation. :)

This was the first Korean movie I saw. It's decent, but not spectacular. It got a lot of attention more due to the nature of the plot (life in an alternate-reality Japan-occupied Korea) than anything else.
