This is the kind of bullshit that I have NO PATIENCE for whatsoever.
The Japanese Immigration Bureau has a website form which allows anyone to specifically report foreigners in Japan who are suspicious or illegal. I have no problem with the immigration officials wanting to control illegal immigration. I have a BIG PROBLEM with this execution of the policy.
Let's ask US Attorney General John Ashcroft to make an INS Website to easily report all the Japanese students who are illegally "studying" in the US. How's that turnabout for fair play?
Koizumi is trying to bring more tourism/investment/foreign capital/foreign companies to Japan. This seems an awfully strange way to be promoting the nation to non-Japanese.

I've heard that there's also a standing directive for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police to stop and question any suspicious-looking Asians. Apparently this is one strategy for fighting the Chinese B&E syndicate. So supposing that Japanese are included as Asians, then combined with the Immigration Bureau initiatives, all people in Japan fall into the keep-an-eye-on-these-jokers category. Whatever keeps us safe, I guess.
This is another "little" thing that pops up when the topic of Japanese Racism is brought up.
Seems that one of the common uses of the word "Asian" in Japan is in referring to Chinese, Korean, or SE Asian. Basically, everyone else in the region EXCEPT the Japanese. As though the Japanese are in someway different or superior racially. The term is rarely if ever used positively.
I know that is a very cynical take on that use, but if the shoe fits...
Unfortunatelly Illegals in Japan are bringing along in their baggages a lot of crime and I don`t mind that iniciative if it is to stop the mob from sneaking them in. Crime is raising and it is time to do something.
