Picked up some great new music today:
- 12″ – Jazztronik “Dance with me” (Especial)
Bought it on sight because the first one was such an amazing slab of wax.
- 12″ – Jazztronik “Aoi Asagao” (DMR)
Again- if it has a samba remix of “Estar Com Voce” then I’m in!
- 12″ – Andy Caldwell & Jay J feat. Latrice “Give a Little” (OM Records)
Haven’t given this one a thorough flogging yet but Andy Caldwell and Jay J never cease to amaze me. Great production, great beats, really solid deep house.
- 12″ – Zero 7 “Home” [Ben Watt Remix] (Ultimate Dilemma)
Zero 7 and Ben Watt?!?! Two of my favorites.
- 12″ – Passion Dance Orchestra “Worlds Versions” (Needs Music)
Phenomenal. Absolutely a stunner. Orchestral, melodic, no vocals, deep house. Gorgeous!
- CD – Jazztronik “Nanairo” (Tokuma Japan Communications)
Because I know one of the bandmembers of Jazztronik (flute player Tomohisa Himeno) I love Nozaki’s music even more. Jazztronik is really doing great stuff these days.
- CD – Gotan Project “La Revancha Del Tango” (Japan Edition (Ya Basta!))
I can’t seem to find my old copy of Gotan Project’s first album and I saw they released a special version for Japan with an extra track, and so I fell for their ploy. This album is so wonderful, it’s worth having on vinyl AND CD. It is really that good. Electronic tango music.
- CD – Gotan Project “Santa Maria Remixes” (XL Recordings)
I bought this one for the Tom Middleton “Cosmos” remix. Middleton is my favorite deep house DJ these days and I will buy anything he releases or remixes.
- CD – NRK Singles 5 (NRK)
NRK is one of my favorite labels and this is a great 2 CD set of singles. One CD is mixed by Chris Lum, no less, and the other is not. If you love deep house, you will love this set of singles. How can you go wrong with a list of contributors that includes Miguel Migs, Ian Pooley, Francois K, Jamie Anderson, Pete Heller, King Britt, Chris Lum, and Q-Burns Abstract Message!

Just a note; I’m seeing more and more CD releases with copy control such that they are unplayable on Macintosh computers. We can go back and forth about the merits of DRM on music but I will simply not purchase any album that I cannot rip to an mp3 player or backup to a second CD. If you, as an artist or record label, think that DRM will somehow save you from malicious people who do not want to pay for music, think again. You are only alienating people who would otherwise buy your music legitimately, but who will not do so on principle or in practice (because the music can only be played on certain drives and not in computers.)
