Heh.

Where will you go for the honeymoon?
Current pipedream: our beloved Bandol, France, to work the vendanges at our friend’s winery! Who wants a honeymoon where you lay around and have sex? We’ve done that for six years! Give me sweat in the vinyards. (Plus: free room and board in exchange for manual labor! Now that is romance, folks.)

Doing Photography and Social Research in the Allied Occupation of Japan, 1948-1951:
A Personal and Professional Memoir
by John W. Bennett
Photographs taken by anthropologist John W. Bennett in occupied Japan, 1948-1951, (a few were made in the 1960′s during his term at Waseda University), with comments on the photos by Bennett. Also included are extensive selections from Bennett’s professional journal of the period, and other documents. Consisting of a personal and professional memoir, this site is also a record of a unique experiment in social analysis and research that focuses on a period of particular significance in the development of Japanese and international history, politics, economics, and culture.

Hilarious article title :)
I think one reason that Japanese men don’t pickup on the few Western women who are in Japan is that the standard of beauty for the majority of Japanese men is Japanese women, not white women. Look at the women who are on the covers of magazines and TV and movie shows. Not white. Asian. Japanese.
Yes, there are exceptions to every rule.

The main reason why Japanese men do not appear to be giving off signals is that many assume Western women are only interested in dating Western men. Big, muscular, “manly” men are usually the ones adored by the media in any country and, on the whole, Japanese men simply are not like that, and they know it. They assume they are not what a Western woman would be looking for.
Many also feel a little bit intimidated by foreign women: a large number of Japanese people develop impressions of foreigners based on American movies. Women in these movies are often independent, confident, articulate about their opinions and enthusiastic participants in bedroom activities.

I still have not seen this movie, after having missed two opportunities to see it here in Tokyo on DVD.
