While this is a decent overview of the Japanese wireless market (as much as you might get in a newspaper article) I strenuously disagree that Japan holds an vision for the future of the US wireless market.
I won’t go into a ton of detail, but the differences are stark. Two of the hottest wireless devices in the US (RIM’s Blackberry and the Treo 600) are nowhere to be found in Japan. 3G in the US and Japan are so different as to be unrecognizable. There are too many differences between usage as well.
Anthony Faiola needs to do more homework, or he is just hyping Japan to the WashPo audience because they don’t know any better.
