Read Andrew Odlyzko's "Content is not King". the entire media industry's yearly turnover represents less than 2 weeks of that of the Telecoms industry, but they have disproportionate political influence, truly the tail wagging the dog. I have witnessed first hand the bizarre fascination of telecoms executives for the content business, as inexplicable as a love of gambling, and equally destructive.
I hope Sony will either divest itself of its media division or bring it to heel before the consumer electronics withers on the vine altogether, but I suspect nothing is going to change until Mr. Idei retires.
