Trevor & Beate

This is getting a lot of press, but it deserves a lot more. It is horrible that this couple has to endure what they are enduring but each and every experience like this will be one less vote for Bush and one more vote for whomever it is who will replace him.

They were Ïglobal nomads.Ó He was a diplomatÌs son. She the daughter of missionaries. They lived in Asia, attended school together, fell in love and want to get married in June. But when HughesÌ fiancee, a German national, tried to visit him on a six-month tourist visa Monday, she was detained in Atlanta, handcuffed, jailed Û even stripped of her diamond engagement ring. Then, after 20 hours without food, she was put on a plane and shipped back to Stuttgart. ÏThis isnÌt the America I fought for,Ó said Hughes, who served in the Navy and U.S. diplomatic corps. ÏYou donÌt expect that from a great country like ours.Ó

Thank you for your comments about our story, we appreciate your support. We are continuing to fight this battle and expect quite a bit of German news coverage in the next three weeks. We will post it on our blog for your info.

ItÌs a long hard road to walk down, but the knowledge that this is happening to so many innocent people every week is the maddening motivation that continues to keep me going.

You are correct that my vote for our next leader has been directly impacted by this experience.

Best regards

Trevor Hughes

Trevor, thanks for leaving a comment.

I am ashamed and embarrased by our government's actions in so many ways, it is hard to count. I am really angry about the lies that started the war against Hussein.

Most of all, I am angry that the response to terrorism is to implement wrong-headed and non-working "profiling" which will never catch the next terrorist, whomever they are.

I wish you luck in your efforts and please let me know if I can help you in any way.

Sincerely,

Gen Kanai
