EIGHT MEGAPIXELS JUST PART OF THE PICTURE WITH SONY
Slashdot | Sony Shoots For 4-Filter CCD, 8 Megapixel Camera

oh man... this thing is UGLY... but SO sweet! wow. i really don't have an excuse not to upgrade my D770 anymore... when will it show up on jp.sonystyle? any known pricing on there?
any rationale as to why they chose CF? or does it support multiple media...?
my guess is: as this is a "semi-pro" camera, the market they want will demand to have CF as well. if you look at other "pro" D-SLR bodies, they all have CF as the interface, AND SD... (strange that SD made it onto a "pro" body...) (note that you can even get a Memory Stick DUO to CF adapter...)
it's not the first time Sony has put out a camera that didn't support JUST memory stick or a format they completely owned... the D770 had interface for full PCMCIA cards... so basically ANY media type, not just Memory Stick. that camera was designated: Cyber-Shot PRO.
it's been awhile since they have put out a camera of that calibre until the F828... love having the mechanical zoom ring instead of electronic.
Yeah, but will it take Memory Stick Duo Pro?
Sorry, that was mean. Just getting tired of Sony coming out with a new memroy card format for every line.
Actually looks very sweet though. Not ready to turn in my Mavica CD400 yet, but really coveting that 7x optical Zeiss zoom.
CNEt has a more appealing photo of the camera.

*salivates*
This camera supports ALL types of MemoryStick, CF1, 2, and microdrive. It can also take TV quality movies at 640x480, 30fps, until you fill up the memory!
I'm sure getting one as soon as they are available!
For a great look at the camera, see:

In Germany you can already order these cams on-line. The price is going from 949 ƒ until 1.100 ƒ.

Concerning that video - you must use a memory stick PRO to get that 640x480 at 30 fps. Otherwise you will some quality. And those sticks are still expensive. But it's still one nice piece of equipment. The one I've been waiting for....
guess what? I hope this works :)
I had a chance to handle it.Mechanical zooming is great improvement.Feels like the SLR I am used to.Great optics, very good lens range.
I have owned this camera since December 30, 2003, and I love it. It has taken some of the sharpest pictures I have ever had, save for some film SLR cameras. The color reproduction is amazing, and the eye color and detail of pictures of my children is just stunning. I have had 12" x 16" prints produced at the local Costco on a Noritsu printer, and they are just awesome......razor sharp detail.
There is some purple fringing (CCD Blooming), but that can be mitigated by using a smaller aperture (works especially well on night shots of say....a city waterfront area), and there is some noise from ISO200 on up. I have had great success with Neat Image noise reduction software in these situations. All in all this is an outstanding camera, and being able to shoot important photographs in RAW is excellent. As well, not being stuck with Memory Stick media is very nice........I like the option of Compact Flash media (since its cheaper for one).
I JUST LOVE THIS CAMERA!
Just wondering when Sony will release the DSC 949? Any news?
