Mindjack: Taste Tribes

|

Joshua Ellis (of both ZenArchery and MarginWalker) writes about 'taste tribes' in Mindjack.

I've been using Usenet and mailing lists and the 'net in general to find the people that share my arcane interests (deep house music, or dual-purpose/supermotard motorcycles, or Nikon camera users, or Acid-jazz music, etc.) so it feels very obvious to me. Most of the people that I share information with online I have never met and I will probably never meet. But the quality of the information that they share with me and the immediacy of that information, is what is really valuable. Joshua puts it all together very clearly and it is a great read.

Hotwired Japan on Blogs

Hotwired Japan does a good overview of blogs for a Japanese audience. I can't read it all but I think that one of the SFC Keio University bloggers does some of the writing and they cover the NYC Bloggers (I am one, albeit in absentia).

Food Poisoning Japan: Snow

|

I don't like pointing people to news like this but it is important that we understand that as long as the government does not keep the interests of it's people first and foremost, individuals (and their right) will continue to be marginalized.

Whether it is TEPCO, Snow Brand, or any of the other companies that are breaching the trust of their customers in Japan, it is seems that the people do not have the tools/power/influence/desire to create change at the levels necessary, yet.

Societal harmony more valuable than the life of an 84-year old grandmother? Who is to judget that?

MJ covers the large earthquake that hit Japan this evening.

I was on the 13th floor of my 14 floor office building and it was swaying quite a bit- enough that the rest of the staff was on the verge of freaking out. I was glued to the window, watching the other buildings in the area for any damage- windows popping out, etc. If I had started to see that kind of damage, I would have tried to go to the stairs but while it lasted quite a while, it finally subsided.

Some of the folks in the office were asking me if I was worried, and I was a bit concerned, but didnt really know what to expect. Knowing that this was the largest quake since 2000 was a bit sobering though.

Unrelated to the quake, but related to MJ, she helped me to update my MovableType to 2.63, so thank you MJ!!

Whooo! New Jazztronic and this one is a great, great bossa-house track! Don't miss it!

- Vuca "Bossafrica/Corsa Notturna" (Schema)
Bossa-house freaks buy two copies. This one is incredible!

I never did have "Samba Magic" on vinyl. Now I do ^_^

- Schmoov! "Destination Remixes" (DiY Discs)

- Bebel Gilberto "Close Your Eyes Remixes" (Crammed/Ziriguiboom)
Feh- remixers could have been chosen more carefully.

- Clan Greco "Transaction/My Favourite Steps/Rotation/Fast Salsa" with Eric - Kupper remixes (Irma Unlimited)
Eric Kupper- remixer from heaven. Yes, on so many compilations, etc. but worthy of it!
